Activating digital ID "not mandatory": Ministry

Amman, Jan. 29 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship said that activating the digital ID is not mandatory.

In order to benefit from all services on the Sanad application, one must visit Sanad stations to activate the digital ID, the ministry said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

"Activating the digital identity at Sanad stations is a precautionary measure to protect citizens, and a main reason to reduce the risk of identity fraud,"the ministry explained.

It added that once the digital ID is activated, the user will be allowed to access his digital documents, such as driver and vehicle licenses, ID card, birth certificate, and other locally approved documents, as an alternative to traditional documents, in addition to accessing personal records such as status information, licensing, education, land, property and more personal information.

The ministry noted that it is working hard to provide a mechanism to activate the digital ID remotely for citizens and expatriates, through the banking sector, as relevant details will be announced upon completion.

It indicated that it is working to add more Sanad stations throughout the Kingdom, noting that locations will be updated daily according to their readiness to facilitate their access.

In order to find out the locations of Sanad stations, please click on the "Near Me" list in the Sanad app.
